cell toys
after much debate and looking i recently grabbed a new cell phone. it is a nifty little lg lotus.
yes, its the purple one.
yes it is awesome.
it is a comparable upgrade to my previous phone, the lg vx8300.
as it stands the 8300 is a nifty phone. you can stuff anything on the memory card and the phone will use it as if it were actually in the phone's resident memory.
the lotus has a little quirk that it wont actually let you use mp3s that are on the memory card as ringers. it simply treats them as media files to listen to, not ring tones. to get around this one needs to send the mp3s to the phone via a delightful text message. rumkin dot com has been quite useful for that.
in terms of software included it has a web browser.
sadly, this is a very sluggish bit of internet viewing pleasure. it was quickly replaced with opera mini. sadly i can only run their older version three. not the newer version four.
there was also a problem with the little carousel feature of the lotus. sure, its pretty and lets you spin images to get to applications and phone devices and settings, but it is sluggish as all hell. so it was kicked. that was interesting. i needed to get into the guts of the phone. luckily the gentlemen at the sprint store were kind enough to provide me with the particular information needed.
all i can say about that feature is that it spins.
it spins.
thus far i have received a little crap for it being pink. it simply looked better than the plain black version.
i have to go with the hotter option.
